Commercial Debt Collection in Wichita

Wichita is the largest city in Kansas, a state located in the Midwestern United States. Kansas itself is a landlocked state, which means it is bordered by Nebraska to the north, Missouri to the east, Oklahoma to the south, and Colorado to the west.

Despite being in a landlocked state, Wichita covers approximately 4.5 square miles of water and 162 square miles of land. As of 2020, the Wichita population was calculated at almost 400,000 residents, with a metro area population of almost 650,000.

Wichita History

Archaeological evidence has indicated of human habitation as early as 3000 BC around what is present-day Wichita. In the 19th century, the Wichita area was acquired by the United States from France with the Louisiana Purchase. Then the area became part of Kansas Territory in 1854, and then added to the state of Kansas in 1861.

In the 20th century, Wichita generated much oil wealth after the discovery of oil and natural gas. Over the next few decades, the city saw the expansion of the aviation and aircraft manufacturing industries. During World War II, the Wichita Municipal Airport hosted the Wichita Army Airfield and Boeing Airplane Company Plant No. 1.

Economical Evolution

Wichita was originally the birthplace of White Castle and Pizza Hut restaurants, and has birthed several other top companies in a variety of industries. Other top Kansas-based brands in Wichita include:

  • Koch
  • Coleman
  • Cessna
  • Beechcraft
  • Freddy’s

In the 21st century, Wichita’s principle industrial sector is in manufacturing, especially aircraft manufacturing. Healthcare has also become a booming industry in Wichita; it is the city’s second-largest industry and employs approximately 28,000 people locally.

Commercial Debt Collection Laws

Wichita commercial debt collection laws are aimed at establishing a basis for companies to work with that are struggling with debt issues. If your company has had issues with debt for the last few years, it’s important to understand the statute of limitations for the different kinds of accounts.

  • Open accounts: 3 years
  • Written contracts: 5 years
  • Domestic judgments: 5 years (renewable)
  • Foreign judgments: 5 years (renewable)

There are also a variety of laws involving bad check statuses, which include 3 times the check amount (not exceeding the check amount), and $500 or $100 (plus attorney fees). For more information, visit our Kansas Commercial Debt Collection Laws page.
